Though I do record to a digital medium, I maintain a studio environment that is not slaved to a mouse and many of the foibles of computer based recording .The studio set-up is a hybrid mix of both analog and digital technology. Tracking is handled through the studio’s high-quality preamps and RME ADI series A/D converters before hitting the hard drive of the HD24XR hard disc recorder, which acts as the “computer” in my studio. I use this recorders as a digital storage medium and file editor.

The majority of my mixing is handled ‘out of the box’ with my outboard dynamics and effect processing. Final mixes are routed into an Alesis Masterlink as 24 bit files prior to CD burning and/or delivery to the mastering engineer. If necessary, files are easily transferred to formats compatible with any of the standard recording platforms (Pro Tools, etc.)

Musical Instruments

The studio also tends to have an assortment of instruments available.  The house bass amp is always available – a nice little vintage Ampeg SB12 Portaflex capable of great bass tone and a house drum kit is also available for sessions.  The kit is a nice sounding Pearl Export Select with a maple Pacific/DW snare and a  selection of Zildjian Custom K and Sabian Evolution cymbals.  There is a ‘secret weapon’ vintage guitar amp in the house as well; an old-school Harmony, that can add a nice flavor to tracks.
